Responsible Management

Menalpyn sees the responsibilities of primary production in fourfold:

The land

We believe that responsible management of the land is vital for this generation and future generations. Maintaining and expanding our dryland lucerne paddocks, thereby preventing salinity problems, renovating pasture, controlling weeds, planting trees and maintaining over one ninth (1000+ acres) of our property as heritage scrubland are all measures we take year in year out to keep Menalpyn Station as a sustainable and healthy property.

Our cattle

We have a responsibility to ensure the welfare of our cattle week in and week out. Our focus for animal health is on prevention and swift action to treat problems. We carry out extensive vaccination programs for our entire herd, and at risk groups within the herd. We pay close attention to nutritional requirements and supplement feed and nutrients as needed to maintain a level of health in our cattle well above the average.

The end consumer

Our responsibility to the consumer is fundamental and their preferences are what drives the industry. Keeping the demands of consumers foremost in our minds in both Lancaster and Commercial herds so as to deliver the desirable attributes of carcase quality, marbling, tenderness and taste coupled with a high yield to satisfy the market.

Our clients

Clients can be assured, when buying Lancaster bulls, that the structural soundness of their bull has been assessed by DIck Whale (IBMS) and the fertility has been assessed by Ian Moreland (StudCare) and is guaranteed by us. In addition, the vaccination status of each bull is extensive, including 7 in 1, Vibrovax, Pestigard and Dectomax, the exact schedule of boosters will be available in each years catalogue, or upon request from us.
